I think you could safely say Sarah is a true Zebra Speech clinician and leader. We are all so happy to have her here and grateful for all her hard work and dedication!
Let’s get started with a little bit of her Zebra Speech history.
Our first introduction to Sarah was when she was in graduate school and did a placement here with Alicia, one of our clinic supervisors. That apparently wasn’t enough Zebra Speech for Sarah, so after graduating she did her clinical fellowship directly with our Executive Director, Dr. Gillis. Still not satisfied, she has spent years training and doing workshops with other members of our leadership team (writing, sign language, and on and on). She writes for the website, she does presentations for the staff, she participates in pretty much every activity and workshop we offer. To date, I don’t recall there ever being a time when she hasn’t volunteered or been willing to help with anything here at the practice. She even started a running group here and joins a crocheting group at that practice! Amazing!
I know what you are thinking, is this obsession or passion? Should we be scared or flattered? We chose passion and flattered. Sarah literally has gone from student, clinical fellow, clinician, senior clinician, and now is the clinic supervisor of one of our largest locations. She is the first person to have held each of those roles at the practice. Impressive right?
Granted, she did have to draw a line when she bought a new car a while back. I can state definitively that she never offered to do a “Zebra Speech Car Wrap” like her former supervisor Alicia offered. That said, we are still pretty sure she is just as committed member of the team – sans driving around in a purple zebra striped car!
That anomaly isn’t to say she is not 100% committed to the practice and her patient’s success though. Because she definitely is! Sarah moved her fiance and all of their exotic pets from Newton just to be closer to her clinic out in MetroWest! What kind of exotic pets you may ask? Good question. Let’s just say history suggests many of the greats were a little eccentric at times.
Sarah grew up here in Massachusetts and went on to get her master’s degree from one of Boston’s top speech therapy colleges, Emerson. She says that after a few short years of undergraduate school in New York… she knew Massachusetts was the only place she wanted to be. We can honestly say after having her here at the practice these past years, Zebra Speech is where we want her to stay!
